1. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam, together with his Lithuanian counterpart Neris Germanas, will hold the fourth Republic of Korea-Lithuania policy consultation in Seoul on September 5.

2. At the vice-ministerial policy consultation to come to mark the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, the two sides will exchange views on the North Korean nuclear issue and the situation on the Korean Peninsula; the cooperation between the ROK and the Baltic region; and regional and global issues. They will also discuss ways to work more closely together in such economic areas as trade, investment, energy and infrastructure.

3. Lithuania, a member state of the EU that holds positions similar to those of the ROK, has firmly condemned North Korea’s nuclear and missile provocations. In the forthcoming consultation, the two sides are expected to exchange in-depth views on ways for the ROK and Lithuania to work together in enforcing tough international sanctions against North Korea.

4. The upcoming meeting is also expected to serve as an opportunity for the ROK and Lithuania to seek ways to work more closely together on the latter country’s energy and infrastructure projects, including the construction of a large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, as well as in the sector of healthcare and medical services. It is also expected to provide an opportunity for them to boost cultural exchanges and step up cooperation at such international organizations as the UN and ASEM.
