1. First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will attend the meeting on Afghanistan on the sidelines of the NATO Summit 2016, which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, on July 8 and 9.

2. The meeting on Afghanistan will bring together the leaders from 40 countries, including those participating in NATO’s Resolute Support Mission (RSM) and Afghanistan; delegates from the Republic of Korea and Japan; and those from such international organizations as the EU, the UN and the World Bank. In the meeting, the participants will discuss the international community’s assistance to and role for the Afghan military and police from 2018 till 2020.

3. At the meeting, Vice Minister Lim will commend the Afghan government for its efforts to achieve political stability and economic development as well as the progress in its work to build peace and stability. He will also highlight the importance of the international community’s long-term assistance to Afghanistan and express the ROK government’s commitment to continue cooperation in the efforts to strengthen the capability of the Afghan military and police.
