1. The government of the Republic of Korea will host the 26th Plenary Meeting of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) in Seoul from June 20 till 24.

2. The NSG is a group of nuclear supplier countries that controls the export of nuclear material, equipment and technology by permitting the export after deliberating whether the importing country would not divert such material, equipment or technology to nuclear weapons development and would use it for peaceful purposes.

◦ The ROK, having started to attend the NSG Plenary Meeting in 1995, has worked as its member over the past 20 years. In addition, the country, which served as the NSG’s chair in 2003, is once again serving as such in 13 years.

3. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will deliver a special address at the meeting on June 23, presenting the direction of the NSG Plenary Meeting in Seoul.

◦ The Minister will highlight the importance of the thorough implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2270 for the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue and will ask the NSG member states to double their efforts to further rein in the supply chain for the North Korean nuclear program.

4. At the forthcoming meeting, the participants will discuss in depth ways to rein in the supply chain for the North Korean nuclear program and to share more relevant information; ways to further strengthen the NSG regime, including expanding its control list; and bids of non-member countries to join the NSG.
