1. During his visit to Cuba, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se visited on June 5 the cultural community center for ethnic Koreans located in Havana and met with local ethnic Koreans. The year 2016 marks the 95th anniversary of Korean immigration to Cuba.

2. Minister Yun made a tour of the cultural community center and extended appreciation to ethnic Koreans in Cuba for their forefathers’ contributions to the independence movement against Japan’s colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula as well as their efforts to maintain their Korean identity.

3. The Minister commended ethnic Koreans in Cuba for their successful settlement in Cuban society and asked them to play a bridging role between the ROK and Cuba for advances in their bilateral relations.

4. During the visit to the center, Minister Yun met with the head of the Hallyu (Korean Wave) club in Cuba and discussed Korean soap operas and K-pop, whose popularity is growing in the country.
