1. The government of the Republic of Korea welcomes the announcement by the European Union (EU) and Iran on January 16 that they have reached Implementation Day under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The ROK government expects that the faithful implementation of the JCPOA will not only reinforce the global non-proliferation regime, but also contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East.

2. As the international community’s sanctions against Iran have been lifted with Implementation Day, the ROK government will further enhance mutually-beneficial cooperation between the ROK and Iran through close cooperation among relevant government ministries.

3. The ROK government takes note that the arrival of the Implementation Day was possible thanks to the united and persistent efforts by the relevant countries as well as Iran’s strategic decision and faithful implementation of its commitment.

4. The ROK government will accelerate its efforts towards the adoption of a strong and comprehensive UN Security Council resolution to make sure that North Korea pays a corresponding price for its latest nuclear test, as well as further strengthen international collaboration on denuclearization of North Korea.
