Opening Ceremony of the Embassy of the Marshall Islands in the ROK Takes Place

1. The opening ceremony of the Embassy of the Marshall Islands in the Republic of Korea took place on December 4. The Marshall Islands is a country in the South Pacific, which has recovered from the wounds of nuclear tests.

2. President of the Marshall Islands Christopher Loeak, who visited the ROK in his personal capacity from December 3 to 4 to attend the opening ceremony, said that he had always watched closely the ROK’s remarkable development history, and expressed hope that with the opening of the Embassy in the ROK, the Marshall Islands and the ROK will further strengthen substantive cooperation in a range of areas, including climate change, development cooperation, fisheries, and marine resources development.

3. The Embassy of the Marshall Islands in the ROK is the third diplomatic mission of a South Pacific country in the ROK, following missions of Fiji and Papua New Guinea, as well as the seventh overseas diplomatic mission of the Marshall Islands. The Embassy is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing friendly and cooperative relations between the ROK and the Marshall Islands.
