1. The Government of the Republic of Korea has decided to offer an additional one million US dollars in humanitarian assistance to Iraq, where a serious humanitarian crisis -- the worst refugee situation since World War II -- has persisted since the year 2014.

◦ So far this year, the ROK government has already provided Iraq with a total of five million US dollars in humanitarian assistance through contributions to international organizations, including UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS). The additional donation of one million US dollars to the FFIS will bring the total of the ROK’s aid to Iraq in 2015 to six million US dollars.

3. By taking part in activities of the FFIS, which has been established to support stable resettlement of Iraqis, the ROK government plans to contribute to efforts to expedite the return of the refugees and internally displaced persons of Iraq to their hometowns, and to improve the self-sufficiency and resilience of the region.

4. The ROK government is increasing humanitarian assistance to foreign countries. In particular, in consideration of deepening humanitarian crises, including the generation of large numbers of refugees, in Africa and the Middle East triggered by continued disputes in the regions, the ROK government plans to increase humanitarian assistance to those refugees.
