1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Education, will hold the 2015 LINC (Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation)-FEALAC (Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation) Forum on Industry-Academia Collaboration in Seoul on October 30 with the aim to promote exchanges and cooperation among the Republic of Korea and other FEALAC member countries in the field of industry-academia collaboration.

* FEALAC is the only multilateral inter-governmental consultative mechanism between East Asia and Latin America, launched in 1999 to promote comprehensive cooperation, and composed of 36 member states – 16 East Asian and 20 Latin American.

2. The forum will bring together about 100 people, including government officials and academics from FEALAC member countries, such as Peru, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Thailand, as well as officials and experts at home in the field of industry-academia collaboration. At the event, relevant experts from FEALAC member states and the ROK will deliver presentations on policies for industry-academia collaboration and outstanding achievements in the field, and seek ways to promote substantive cooperation between the two regions.

◦ On the occasion of the forum, the ROK will inform the Latin American countries of its cases of industry-academia collaboration and build networks between the Korean and Latin American officials in the field. Accordingly, the event is expected to serve as an opportunity to boost exchanges and cooperation with the Latin American countries in the field of industry-academia collaboration.

3. The ROK, appointed to serve as FEALAC’s Regional Coordinator of East Asia from 2015 to 2017 at the seventh FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in Costa Rica in August 2015, will host the eighth FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ meeting in 2017. The ROK will play a leading role in promoting cooperation with Latin America and further bolster exchanges and cooperation with the member states of FEALAC.
