Outcome of the 2nd High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation

1. The second High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation took place in Seoul on October 28, chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Kim Hong-kyun. The Chair’s Summary agreed upon at the meeting is as follows.


Chair’s Summary

1. The Second High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation was held on 28 October 2015 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Representatives from China, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, the United States, and the Republic of Korea, as well as from dialogue partners such as the United Nations, the European Union, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat participated in the meeting.

2. The participants of the Meeting reviewed the developments made since the First Meeting held last year through cooperation in functional areas, including nuclear safety, energy security, environment, disaster management, cyberspace, health, and drugs. They also discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in those areas and expand the cooperation to other areas.

3. The participants recognized the contribution that the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative (NAPCI) can make to promoting cooperation and building trust in Northeast Asia and reaffirmed their willingness to actively engage in multilateral dialogue and cooperation in the region.

4. The participants agreed to hold the Third High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation in 2016. /END/
