1. The National Library of Korea and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in El Salvador installed the “Window on Korea,” a reference room with materials about the ROK, in the main library of the University of El Salvador, and its opening ceremony took place on September 1.

o The “Window on Korea” in El Salvador is the second one to be installed in Latin America after Mexico. It will be used as a space to promote Korean culture, where the ROK will be introduced to the people of El Salvador through a range of activities, including providing access to books and cultural contents related to the ROK, and holding cultural lectures.

2. At the opening ceremony, ROK Ambassador to El Salvador Kim Byong-seop stressed that the ROK’s rapid economic growth is largely attributable to the power of scholarship and culture which has been accumulated for a long time. He also expressed hope that the “Window on Korea” will play a role in facilitating cultural exchanges between the ROK and El Salvador.

o The opening ceremony brought together ROK Ambassador to El Salvador Kim Byong-seop, and head of the Planning and Training Department of the National Library of Korea Ryu Jung-young, as well as key figures from the government of El Salvador, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Hugo Martinez, Minister of Education Carlos Canjura, Secretary of Culture of the President's Office Ramon Rivas, and Rector of the University of El Salvador Mario Nieto Lovo.

3. It is hoped that the opening of the “Window on Korea” will help cultural exchanges, which have so far been centered on Korean popular culture, such as K-POP, further deepen and expand to cover traditional Korean culture and academic exchanges as well.
