2. “Quiz on Korea” is one of the public diplomacy programs conducted by the Foreign Ministry to enhance foreigners' interest in the ROK and the international image of the country. Preliminary quiz contests on the ROK are held in foreign countries and the winner from each country is invited to the ROK to compete in the final round. In the fourth “Quiz on Korea” in 2015, some 2,000 people in 22 countries participated in heated preliminary contests, which were covered by many local media outlets.

◦ In Mongolia, the ROK Embassy in the country and Ulaanbaatar Broadcasting System (UBS) co-produced and aired the preliminary round of “Quiz on Korea” held in the country like in 2014, with the first-prize winner of last year’s “Quiz on Korea” from Mongolia as its MC.

◦ In addition, in Cambodia, where a preliminary round took place for the first time this year, the show motivated some Cambodian contestants to increase their knowledge on the ROK by organizing study groups to make thorough preparations for the contest. The preliminary round was aired by the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK), an opportunity for other ordinary Cambodian viewers to take interest in the ROK.

3. The 22 winners of the preliminary rounds held in the 22 countries are on a seven-day visit to the ROK from September 5 through 11. During the visit, they will have first-hand experiences of Korean culture in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do (province), and Seoul and compete in the final round of the “Quiz on Korea” show at KBS, Seoul, on September 10.

4. The Foreign Ministry hopes that the “Quiz on Korea” event will serve as a genuine two-way festivity for youths with shared interest in the ROK to build friendship and share their own cultures with one another, as well as to promote the ROK back home as civilian diplomats.
