ROK and Ghana to Hold their 1st Policy Consultation

1. The first director-general-level policy consultation between the Republic of Korea and Ghana will take place in Accra, Ghana, on August 24, with Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Kwon Hee-seog of the ROK Foreign Ministry and Director for Asia and Pacific Muhammed Fuseini Inusah of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration leading their respective delegations.

2. In the forthcoming policy consultation, the two sides will engage in an extensive exchange of views on matters of mutual concern, including high-level personnel exchanges; and cooperation on economy, trade, investment, development, culture and sports, as well as on the international stage.

3. The first-ever director-general-level policy consultation between the ROK and Ghana since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1977 will come as part of the ROK government’s efforts to step up diplomacy toward Africa. Ahead of the 40th anniversary of the ROK-Ghana diplomatic relations in 2017, the meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to build a channel for regular bilateral dialogue. Furthermore, it is expected to help promote the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries and increase their substantive cooperation in diverse sectors.
