1. On July 10, the Foreign Ministry presented commendations to the Cheonghae Unit and its soldiers in recognition of their successful evacuation operation of the nationals of the Republic of Korea from Yemen and active assistance with the work at the makeshift Embassy office in Yemen set up on the Unit’s warship Wang Geon.

2. ROK Ambassador to Yemen Lee Young-ho, presenting the commendations aboard the Wang Geon on behalf of Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, lauded the Cheonghae Unit for rendering active cooperation and support in setting up and operating the Embassy office on the warship Wang Geon, which marked the first such case in the ROK’s diplomatic history. Furthermore, he extended appreciation and encouragement to the soldiers who successfully evacuated six ROK nationals as well as another six foreign nationals from the US, Canada and etc., by the Wang Geon on April 9.

3. The warship Wang Geon of the Cheonghae Unit is conducting maritime security operations near the Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea. Amid the growing insecurity in Yemen, part of the ROK Embassy in Yemen was relocated to the warship on April 3, handling such affairs as ensuring the safety of the ROK nationals remaining in the country.
