1. The Ministry of Health and Welfare has announced that Director-General Margaret Chan of the World Health Organization (WHO) will visit the Republic of Korea from June 18 to attend the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Conference and Council of National Representatives (CNR) 2015.

◦ At the conference themed “Global Citizen, Global Nursing,” delegates from nursing sectors and nurses from some 135 countries will discuss pending international issues in the field. Director-General Chan will attend the opening ceremony on June 19 and deliver a keynote speech at the academic conference on nursing on June 20.

2. During her visit to the ROK, the WHO Director-General will also pay a courtesy call on the National Assembly Speaker and meet with the Minister of Health and Welfare and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In addition, she will hold a press conference to discuss the WHO’s assessment of the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in the ROK and present relevant recommendations to the ROK government.

3. After the press conference, the Ministry of Health and Welfare will upload a video clip of the conference on the MERS website at www.mers.go.kr.
