Foreign Ministry to Hold Cultural Events to Mark the 50th Anniversary of the Normalization of the ROK-Japan Relations

1. The Foreign Ministry will dispatch cultural arts performance troupes to Japan in May to hold cultural events in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the normalization of the Republic of Korea-Japan relations in 2015. The troupes will stage performances of classical music, traditional Korean dances and traditional orchestral music of Korea in Kobe, Toyama and Sapporo, respectively.

* Dates and venues of performances
- 16:00-18:00, May 16 in Kobe
- 17:00-19:00, May 16 in Toyama
- 18:30-20:30, May 20 in Sapporo

2. In addition to the joint performances by the troupes run by the ROK’s provincial governments and Japanese groups, exchange programs will be conducted between provincial government agencies of the two countries to mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of the bilateral relations. The ROK Foreign Ministry will use these commemorative events as a good opportunity to broaden the base of exchanges between the peoples of the two countries.

3. Such cultural events introducing Korea to the Japanese people are expected to convey a message of reconciliation and harmony between the two countries and thereby help their peoples understand each other better and Japanese society become more familiar with Korean culture.
