Foreign Minister Meets with World Economic Forum Managing Director Philipp Rösler

1. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se met with World Economic Forum (WEF) Managing Director Philipp Rösler on March 31 and exchanged views on a range of issues, including ways to strengthen cooperation between the ROK and the WEF, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

2. Minister Yun expressed appreciation for the WEF’s support during his participation in the Davos Forum in January this year. He also hoped that the Davos Forum will help enhance the ROK-WEF cooperation on issues in Northeast Asia and on the Korean Peninsula.

o Managing Director Rösler noted that Minister Yun significantly contributed to discussions on the recent global issues, including geopolitical situations, by attending numerous summit-level panel discussions at the Davos Forum this year. The Managing Director also asked for the ROK’s continued participation and support.

3. Minister Yun congratulated the WEF for obtaining the status of an international institution recently and expected that the WEF, as an international institution, will further expand its roles.

o In response, Managing Director Rösler expressed the WEF’s willingness to maintain closer cooperation with the ROK going forward.

4. The Managing Director requested that an ROK government official attend the World Economic Forum on East Asia to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 19-21. Minister Yun stated that the ROK government will review the request.

5. Minister Yun also explained the latest situation on the Korean Peninsula and the inter-Korean relations. Managing Director Rösler said that he actively supports the ROK government’s efforts for the unification of the Korean Peninsula and the WEF will provide necessary cooperation.
