ROK and the Bulgarian Heads of State Exchange Celebratory Messages to Mark the 25th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

1. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Bulgaria on March 23, President Park Geun-hye of the ROK exchanged celebratory messages with President Rosen Plevneliev of Bulgaria.

* The ROK and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations on March 23, 1990.

2. In her message, President Park took note of advances in the friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries in various sectors, including politics, economy, social affairs and culture. She went on to propose that the two countries, by drawing upon their trust and friendship built over the past 25 years, work closely together to usher in a future of cooperation and co-prosperity.

3. President Plevneliev noted with appreciation that the ROK and Bulgaria, since the establishment of diplomatic relations around the time when the latter transformed into a democratic country, have shared such universal values as democracy, market economy, the rule of law and human rights, and seen their relations further mature in a wide range of fields over the past 25 years.

◦ In addition, the Bulgarian President expressed satisfaction over the strengthening and expansion of bilateral multi-level cooperation at the EU and on other international stages.


4. The ROK and Bulgaria are planning to hold a variety of events in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2015. In a similar move, the Bulgarian government issued commemorative stamps.
