1. The Foreign Ministry’s Director-General for South Asian and Pacific Affairs Suh Jeong-in, who also serves as Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, will represent the government of the Republic of Korea at the 20th meeting of the International Contact Group (ICG) of Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on January 29.

2. The first ICG meeting to come since the launch of the new government in Afghanistan in September 2014 will bring together delegates from the government of Afghanistan -- Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Karzai -- and such major donor countries as the ROK, the US and Germany. The meeting will cover ways for Afghanistan to achieve mid- to long-term socio-economic development; to strengthen the country’s military and police capabilities; and to reform its election system.
