1. The 13th ROK-Japan High-level Economic Consultation took place at the Foreign Ministry in Seoul on January 8, with Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Ahn Chong-ghee of the ROK Foreign Ministry and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Yasumasa Nagamine of the Japanese Foreign Ministry leading their respective delegations.

2. The 13th Consultation was the first ROK-Japan high-level consultation to be held this year, which marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic relations. The two sides commended the continued development of bilateral economic relations over the past 50 years. They also shared the view that the two countries need to work more closely to further advance their economic relations in a future-oriented manner.

3. The two sides held extensive discussions on economic issues of mutual concern in a range of areas, including trade, investment, and cooperation in the private sector, as well as ways to cooperate on multilateral and regional issues.

4. The latest Consultation holds big significance in that it served as an opportunity for the two countries to comprehensively review bilateral economic issues and other issues of mutual concern and discuss ways to strengthen economic exchanges and cooperation with a future-oriented perspective.
