ROK-China-Japan Youth to Jointly Envision the Future of Northeast Asia

1. The Foreign Ministry’s Northeast Asian Affairs Bureau will hold a Trilateral Youth Camp for college students from the Republic of Korea, China and Japan in Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju from August 9 through 11. The event comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to build a ROK-China-Japan trilateral youth network.

2. Fifty-four college students, including Koreans as well as Chinese and Japanese studying in the ROK, will participate in the Camp. The three-day event will consist of various programs: a presentation on the future direction of ROK-China-Japan trilateral cooperation at the Foreign Ministry on August 9; a discussion session on ways to facilitate activities of trilateral youth clubs; a presentation designed to help the participants gain a correct understanding on the three countries; a meeting with local government officials who handle international relations affairs; and a lecture on the cultures of the three countries.

3. The Camp is expected to serve as an opportunity for future leaders of Northeast Asia to deliberate on the present and the future of cooperation in the region, enhance mutual understanding and thereby pave the way for the envisioned era of cooperation in Northeast Asia.

4. The Foreign Ministry, as a way to build a trilateral youth network, has encouraged the establishment of clubs for college students from the three countries to jointly carry out activities in. It plans to conduct various projects to provide youths of the three countries opportunities to boost mutual exchanges.
