1. First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kyou-hyun will host a welcome reception and dinner at Lotte Hotel Seoul on August 8 for 22 Vietnamese vice ministerial-level officials, including Bui Van Cuong, Party Secretary of the Centrally-run Business Bloc, who are visiting the Republic of Korea from August 5 to 16 as part of a training course for high-level officials of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration.

o The welcome dinner will also be attended by officials from the Foreign Ministry, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Central Officials Training Institute (COTI).

2. The Vietnamese high-level officials are visiting the ROK as part of a “capacity-building program for future leaders,” a grant aid program for global training which KOICA and COTI are jointly carrying out.

o During their trip to the ROK, the Vietnamese officials will learn about theories and cases of the ROK’s industrial and regional development policies put in place during the country’s economic rejuvenation. This will be followed by visits to places where regional development policies were actually implemented.

3. In his speech at the welcome dinner, Vice Minister Kim will extend his welcome to the Vietnamese young leaders, aged 37 to 49, who will lead the country’s future. The Vice Minister will also request their interest in and support for the development and maturity of the relations between the ROK and Vietnam, which are increasingly getting closer.

4. In addition to the aforementioned training program, the Foreign Ministry will also conduct a joint research project with the Ho Chi Minh National Academy as part of KOICA’s development consulting program (DEEP) to promote friendship and solidify the strategic cooperative partnership between the ROK and Vietnam. The Ministry will continue to support Vietnam’s public administration capacity-building and build a network with its high-level officials.
