Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs to Visit China

1. Lim Sung-nam, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs and head delegate to the Six-Party Talks, is scheduled to visit Beijing, China, on December 22-23, for a consultation with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei.

2. The two sides will assess and exchange views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula after the passing of Chairman Kim Jong-il, and consult on the way forward regarding the North Korean nuclear 
issue.

3. Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Korea and China had a telephone conversation on December 20 to share views on the current situation, and agreed to closely communicate and cooperate with each other. The consultation between the chief delegates to the Six-Party Talks is to be held in Beijing as part of such effort and is expected to contribute to more active communication and cooperation between the ROK and China.
