1. Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan and his counterparts from five countries in the Mekong region will
hold the 1st Korea-Mekong Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Seoul on October 27 and 28, the first of its kind
since its launch was agreed upon at the Korea-ASEAN Summit last year.

- The five countries in the Mekong region are Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.

2. With the focus of the Meeting on "ways to promote economic and development cooperation between
Korea and the Mekong region," the Foreign Ministers will exchange views on the major future direction
for cooperation in this regard. Views on other matters of mutual concern, such as government affairs,
will also be exchanged.

3. Korea plans to take the opportunity of the Meeting to further promote substantive cooperation with
the Mekong region. To this end, it will share its development experience with the Mekong countries
and actively seek and conduct development cooperation projects that meet the demand of the region,
thereby realizing the G-20's "Development Diplomacy Initiative." Also, the Meeting is expected to serve
as an opportunity to strengthen Korea's diplomacy vis-a-vis emerging economies, with the country
exploring the possibility of stepping up cooperation in trade and investment with the Mekong region,
a region with growth potential.
