1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha will visit Washington D.C., the United States, on November 8-11 and have a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on November 9.
° The upcoming foreign ministerial meeting, the first face-to-face meeting between Minister Kang and Secretary Pompeo since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been arranged due to Secretary Pompeo’s invitation to Minister Kang to the U.S. after the Secretary’s visit to the ROK, which had been arranged for early October, was cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.
2. The Minister and the Secretary, by continuing strategic bilateral communication, will reaffirm the robust alliance between the ROK and the U.S. and have an in-depth discussion on ways for collaboration for complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula as well as the strengthening of the ROK-U.S. alliance.
° The two sides will also exchange views on matters of mutual interest, including regional and global affairs.
3. During
her visit to the U.S., Minister Kang will also meet with key members of the
U.S. Congress and academic circles, and exchange views on the situations on the
Korean Peninsula and in the region and ask for continued support and
cooperation in moving the Korean Peninsula peace process forward and strengthening
the ROK-U.S. alliance.
