Outcome of Video Conference between ROK and Chinese Vice Foreign Ministers

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young had a video conference with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Le Yucheng on the afternoon of April 17, and discussed matters of mutual interest, including cooperation in responding to COVID-19, the Republic of Korea-China relations, and issues on the Korean Peninsula.


2. The two sides, assessing the developments in COVID-19 response in the two countries and the international community, shared the view that in overcoming the global COVID-19 crisis, the ROK and China should not only strengthen bilateral cooperation, but also make active contributions respectively, including by sharing their necessary experiences with the international community and providing supplies.


o Vice Minister Cho introduced the ROK government’s proactive response measures and achievements based on openness, transparency and democratic principles. Vice Minister Le explained China’s accomplishments in disease control and the latest normalization of social and economic activities.


o In addition, the two sides expected that mutual support for quarantine supplies and messages of encouragement that have continued between the governments and the private sectors of the ROK and China will serve as a valuable foundation for promoting friendship and developing relations between the two countries.


3. The two sides agreed to work together to create “fast track (a measure to simplify entry procedures for businesspeople)” to enable businesspeople to continue essential economic activities, while continuing to cooperate in responding to COVID-19. They also agreed to continue working-level consultations to implement the measure as early as possible.

4. In addition, the two sides agreed to continue communication at various levels to overcome the COVID-19 situation together and elevate the ROK-China relations to a higher level.


o The two sides agreed to continue consultations on carrying out exchanges at various levels, including high-level exchanges scheduled for this year.


5. The two sides shared their assessments of the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, and reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation between the ROK and China to make substantive progress in the Korean Peninsula Peace Process.
