ROK and Russia to Strengthen Cooperation on Arctic Affairs and on Development of COVID-19 Vaccines

1. Director-General for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Scientific Affairs Chung Keeyong will visit Moscow, the Russian Federation, at the invitation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attend the 4th Republic of Korea-Russian Federation Arctic Consultation, and have a consultation on COVID-19 vaccines with the Russia Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

 

° On November 19, the Director-General will hold the Arctic Consultation with Russia, which will assume the next Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023, and discuss Arctic cooperation in various areas, including the Northern Sea Route, shipbuilding and Arctic science.

 

° The Director-General will also meet with RDIF Director Vladimir Primak on November 20 and listen to the Russian side’s position on the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Russia on its own.

 

2. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the ROK-Russia diplomatic relations. The two countries, considering the COVID-19 situation, will extend “the Year of Mutual Exchanges between the ROK and Russia” until next year to step up exchanges in various areas and to hold diplomatic events aimed at advancing the bilateral relations.
