Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hold 2020 OSCE Asian Conference and Inter-Regional Conference on Impact of Emerging Technologies on International Security and Terrorism

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), will hold the 2020 OSCE Asian Conference on the theme of “multilateral responses to the global security challenges” on October 12-13 in a virtual format.

 

° Vice Minister Lee Taeho will deliver a keynote speech on the importance of multilateral response to global challenges at 16:30, October 12, during the opening ceremony of the Conference, which will be held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of partnership between the OSCE, a key organization for regional security cooperation, and its Asian Partners for Co-operation.

 

° The OSCE’s Participating States and Asian Partners for Co-operation will discuss challenges faced by both Europe and Asia, including regional confidence-building measures, transnational environmental issues and health security in the COVID-19 situation, and explore ways for cooperation between Europe and Asia.

 

2. On October 14, the day after the OSCE Asian Conference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also invite civilian experts and hold the “2020 Inter-Regional Conference on the Impact of Emerging Technologies on International Security and Terrorism” in a virtual format.

 

° By holding the conference with the OSCE on security challenges of emerging technologies even amid the COVID-19 situation, the participants will discuss in depth impact of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency and the misuse of the Internet, on international security and terrorism.
