1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun met with Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Korea Harry Harris for about 50 minutes from 14:00, August 31, to exchange their first greetings since the former’s inauguration as well as an extensive range of views on the overall Republic of Korea-United States relations and regional and global affairs.
° With regard to the crash between a U.S. armored vehicle and a civilian car in Pocheon, Ambassador Harris offered condolences over the deaths of the four Korean nationals killed in the tragic accident.
2. Vice Minister Choi noted with appreciation that, even amid the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, the ROK and the U.S. have maintained close communication at each level, including the summit level, and voiced hope that the two countries would continue collaboration on the basis of the ironclad bilateral alliance.
° Ambassador Harris extended congratulations to Vice Minister Choi on his inauguration and suggested that the ROK and the U.S. continue working together to expand bilateral cooperation.
3. Vice Minister Choi and Ambassador Harris agreed to communicate closely as often as necessary on not only the ROK-U.S. relations but also various regional and global matters of mutual interest.
