1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha hosted a reception for honorary consuls in Korea at the Foreign Minister’s official residence on July 16.

※ The corps of honorary consuls in Korea consists of honorary consuls in the private sector who have been appointed by foreign governments (mainly businessmen and people from various sectors in the ROK). There are 133 honorary consuls representing 101 countries as of July 2018.

2. In her welcome remarks, Minister Kang appreciated the honorary consuls’ roles and efforts, saying that as civil diplomats, they were serving as a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations between the ROK and other countries around the world. Minister Kang also asked them to continue to support the ROK’s foreign policy and to play their leading roles in civilian diplomacy.

o The event was attended by about 70 people, including honorary consuls in Korea, and senior officials from the Foreign Ministry.
