1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha spoke by phone with her US counterpart Mike Pompeo on June 1, and engaged in in-depth discussions on the results of contacts between the US and North Korea underway, as well as the way forward.

o Secretary Pompeo shared the detailed results of his meeting with Vice Chairman of North Korea's Workers' Party Central Committee Kim Yong-chol in New York, and the US-North Korea working-level talks at Panmunjeom, which were held from May 30 to 31. The Secretary also explained developments regarding efforts to revive the US-North Korea summit, and the US side’s plan for the path forward.

o Minister Kang took note of close communications and coordination between the ROK and the US that have continued during a series of recent contacts between the US and North Korea, and discussed a range of ways to achieve complete denuclearization and establish a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, while keeping alive the current momentum for dialogue.

o Minister Kang and Secretary Pompeo agreed to continue close communications and cooperation between the ROK and the US at each level on the US-North Korea summit.
