1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha had a telephone conversation with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Retno L.P. Marsudi on the evening of August 12, and agreed to streamline the procedure for Korean business people’s entry into Indonesia.

° The agreement is a result of the continued consultations between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Indonesia since the spread of COVID-19 on ways to ensure smooth entry and free economic activities of their entrepreneurs while maintaining their capacities for preventing and controlling the spread of COVID-19.

2. Pursuant to the agreement, Korean business people can now enter Indonesia, which has in effect suspended foreigners’ entry to date, and, if they have a certificate proving that they have tested negative for COVID-19, they are exempt from the 14-day quarantine in Indonesia.

° Visas will be issued to Korean entrepreneurs after they apply for visas at the Indonesian Embassy in the ROK, and their inviting companies in Indonesia apply for a letter of support to the Investment Coordinating Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BKPM).

3. The agreement marks the first case in which special entry into a partner country of the New Southern Policy has been institutionalized for Korean business people. Given that Indonesia is the ROK’s major partner for trade and investment, the agreement is expected to contribute greatly to Korean business activities in Indonesia as well as the development of economic cooperative relations between the ROK and Indonesia.

4. The agreement will be enforced from August 17. Information regarding health certificates for Korean business people (certificates proving that they have tested negative for COVID-19) is available at the Business Travel Support Center (Tel No.: 1566-8110, www.btsc.or.kr), and that regarding applications for visas to Indonesia and applications for letters of support can be obtained at the Indonesian Embassy in the ROK (Tel No.: 02-2224-9011/9012).
