1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a telephone conversation with Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun of the United States Department of State for about 30 minutes on January 2.

In the telephone conversation, the two sides shared their assessments of the North Korean leader’s New Year's address as well as the latest developments in contact between the US and North Korea, and based on the discussion, they coordinated strategies to push for denuclearization and a peace regime, and plans for consultations between the Republic of Korea and the US.
