Foreign Minister Hosts Reception to Win Support for ROK Candidacy for UN BoA

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha hosted a reception in order to ask the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of Korea (ROK) to support the ROK candidate running for a post on the United Nations Board of Auditors (BoA), at the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 12:00 to 13:20, August 28.

 

In April 2019, Chairman of the ROK Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) Choe Jae-hyeong registered his candidacy for the UN BoA election (in November 2019) for the term 2020-2026.

 

The event brought together nearly 130 participants, including the BAI officials such as Chairman Choe and Ambassadors as well as officials from 85 Diplomatic Missions in the ROK.

 

2. In her welcoming remarks, Minister Kang commended Chairman Choe’s outstanding qualities and professional competence and asked for the participants’ active support for his candidacy for the UN BoA, while explaining the BAI’s world-leading capability in audit and abundant experiences in international cooperation.

 

During his campaign speech, Chairman Choe explained the BAI’s plans and capabilities to enhance the fairness and transparency of operations of the United Nations (UN), and underscored the BAI’s willingness to contribute to the development of the UN and the international community on the basis of close partnerships among the UN member states. 

 

3. The reception served as an opportunity to enhance the UN member states’ attention to and understanding of the ROK’s candidate. The ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close cooperation with its overseas missions and the BAI, will actively help the ROK’s candidate be elected.
