On Wednesday
morning, September 28, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will hold the 7th
Korea-UK foreign ministerial strategic dialogue with the new UK Secretary of
State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, James Cleverly, who is
on a visit to Korea.
In the strategic
dialogue, Foreign Minister Park will discuss the way forward for bilateral
relations, with next year marking the 140th anniversary of beginning of bilateral
exchanges between the two countries, and exchange
views on the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in other major regions, as
well as ways to work together on the international stage.
In the afternoon on
the same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will also meet with Minister
of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Wopke Hoekstra.
In the meeting,
Foreign Minister Park will review the progress in the implementation of
follow-up measures to the Korea-Netherlands Summit held in June this year, and
discuss ways to enhance economic security in the areas of semiconductors and
nuclear power plants, the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in other major
regions, and ways to increase cooperation on the international stage.
The UK and the
Netherlands are Korea’s long-standing friends who fought alongside Korea during
the Korean War. The visit to Korea by the foreign ministers of the two
countries is expected to serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the partnerships
for value-based diplomacy with key European countries.
