Outcome of Korea-Trinidad and Tobago Vice Foreign Ministerial Meeting

1.  Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun had a meeting on December 2 with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago Reita Toussaint, who was on a visit to Korea to participate in the 11th High-Level Forum on the Korea-Caribbean Partnership. In this meeting, they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest including bilateral relations, substantive cooperation and Korea-Caribbean cooperation.


2.  Vice Minister Choi conveyed willingness for future cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago, which is one of Korea’s key partner countries in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Furthermore, he suggested strengthening cooperation in various areas including industrial innovation and digital agriculture, with next year marking the 60th anniversary of the independence of Trinidad and Tobago.


3.  Permanent Secretary Toussaint hoped that the two governments would promote exchanges and cooperation between enterprises and other private sectors of both countries through intergovernmental cooperation in the fields of public health, welfare, agriculture and public security so that Korea’s advanced digital technology and policy experience can be shared with Trinidad and Tobago.


4.  During the first face-to-face high-level diplomatic activity between Korea and the Caribbean region since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two vice foreign ministers agreed to expand substantive cooperation in various areas such as public health, digital transition, culture and arts.
