Telephone Conversation between Foreign Ministers of ROK and Estonia

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu on April 24 at the latter’s request and exchanged views on ways for cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Estonia regarding response to COVID-19.


2. Minister Reinsalu took note of the robust cooperation on disease control in response to COVID-19 and the defense industry, and Minister Kang mentioned that she is happy that the ROK’s technology and experiences are helping the international community, including Estonia.


3. Minister Kang commended Estonia for its great contribution to discussions on COVID-19 response as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Minister Reinsalu mentioned that Estonia, set to assume the presidency of the Security Council in May, will make more active efforts to step up the international community’s cooperation on disease control, and voiced hope for strong cooperation with the ROK.


° In particular, the two Ministers shared the understanding that, as digital powerhouses, the two countries have a great potential to contribute to the international community’s response to COVID-19 and to rendering assistance to developing countries in the area by using digital technology, and therefore, they will strengthen cooperation with like-minded countries.

4. The telephone conversation served as an opportunity to express the two countries’ solidarity and to confirm their will to enhance bilateral cooperation on COVID-19 response.
