1. The government of the Republic of Korea will send a special envoy of the President -- Kim Jin-pyo, a member of the National Assembly -- to the inauguration ceremony of President of the Republic of Senegal Macky Sall, which will take place in Diamniadio near the Senegalese capital of Dakar on April 2. Special envoy Kim will be accompanied by another member of the National Assembly, Jeon Hyun-heui.

2. Senegal is an exemplary democratic country in West Africa and one of the ROK’s main cooperative partners for official development assistance (ODA). Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, the ROK and Senegal have been maintaining close friendly and cooperative ties across the board, including economy and development cooperation.

° The two countries have actively been engaging in high-level exchanges, including the bilateral summit held on the occasion of the UN General Assembly session in September 2017, which marked the ROK’s first summit with an African country since the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in government.

° Senegal is a country with a great potential that has been recording a high economic growth rate under a relatively stable democratic regime. The ROK and Senegal are expected to see bilateral substantive cooperation grow in economic areas, including trade and infrastructure construction.

3. At the inauguration ceremony of President Macky Sall, the special envoy will extend congratulations on the launch of the new government and deliver President Moon Jae-in’s letter, in which he will have expressed his hope for a stronger friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
