1. Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam visited “the world cup traditional market” in Mangwon-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on September 21 in a bid to help boost business at traditional markets. During the visit to the market, he exchanged Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) greetings with vendors and citizens who were there shopping ahead of the Chuseok holidays.

° Vice Minister Lim, together with the chair of the market union and an official in charge of welfare and education at the Mapo-gu Office, made a tour of the market; and bought Songpyeon (half moon-shaped tteok, or rice cake, eaten during Chuseok), fruit and other Chuseok-related goods with Onnuri gift certificates and handed them over to Mapo-gu Office. These goods will be offered to low-income residents in Mapo-gu via a food bank in the area.

2. On a related note, with the Chuseok holidays just around the corner, the Minister, the Vice Ministers and other officials of the Foreign Ministry are holding such events at the eight social welfare facilities that have forged sisterhood ties with the Ministry.
