1. Given the temporary nature of the “special travel advisory” and the current public security situation in Venezuela, the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to lift on September 4 the “special travel advisory,” which has been temporarily in place since July 30, 2017 in the parts of Venezuela other than the states of Zulia, Tachira, Merida and Barinas.

° Some of the parts of Venezuela previously under the “special travel advisory” will be placed under the travel-alert level of Yellow Alert (Highly Cautious).

※ Since the launch of the National Constituent Assembly in Venezuela on August 4, the country has seen a drastic decrease in anti-government protests and road block cases. In addition, with the opposition having decided to participate in the provincial elections expected to come in October, the country is facing a lull in the political unrest.

- There have been no large-scale anti-government demonstrations since August 12, 2017.

※ In response to the worsening public security situation amid intensifying anti-government protests in Venezuela, the ROK Foreign Ministry previously issued a temporary “special travel advisory” for some parts of the country, effective from July 30, to arouse a sense of alertness in the Korean nationals visiting or residing in the country.

2. Nevertheless, for the regions where the public security situation has worsened following large-scale anti-government protests in April, as well as those bordering Colombia, the “special travel advisory” has been replaced by Red Alert (Travel Restricted).

* The regions placed under Red Alert are the states of Sucre, Monagas, Delta Amacuro, Trujillo, Apure, Portuguesa, Lara, Falcon, Yaracuy and Cojedes.

3. The Korean nationals planning to visit or staying in Venezuela are advised to check the travel advisories issued by the Foreign Ministry and to pay serious heed to their safety.
