1. The Center for International Law at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) will open the “2017 Seoul Academy of International Law” from July 3 to 14 for 46 people, including diplomats and other government officials, academics, researchers and graduate students in the area of international law from home and 20-odd other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

2. The Seoul Academy will offer nine courses on international law regarding East Asian and global issues, which will be lectured by prominent Korean and foreign judges, former and incumbent, at international courts, senior government officials and academics. As such, it will serve as a good opportunity for the participants to better understand diplomatic issues of their home countries as well as issues concerning international law.

° In particular, professor Harold Koh of Yale University will join the faculty of the 2017 Seoul Academy to deliver a lecture on “basics of international law.”

3. The Republic of Korea will take the opportunity of this year’s event, the second of its kind, to seek to expand its support base on international legal matters, to build an international legal network in East Asia, and to expand its role as an international legal hub.
