Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun Meets with Vice Foreign Minister of Mongolia



1. On the afternoon of May 12, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun met with Vice Foreign Minister of Mongolia Batsumber Munkhjin, who is on a visit to Korea, and exchanged views on Korea-Mongolia bilateral relations, cooperation in COVID-19 response, Northeast Asia Cooperation for Health Security (NEACHS), and the situation on the Korean Peninsula, etc.

2. Vice Minister Choi noted with appreciation the Mongolian side’s active participation in and support for Northeast Asia Cooperation for Health Security (NEACHS) which was launched in late 2020 led by Korea. He suggested continued cooperation between Korea and Mongolia in the process of consolidating and institutionalizing NEACHS.



3. In addition, Vice Minister Choi explained the Korean government’s efforts for complete denuclearization and establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula. Noting that Mongolia has made various efforts for the regional stability and the engagement with North Korea including hosting the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue, he asked for Mongolia’s continued support and cooperation in that aspect.

 

ㅇ Vice Foreign Minister Munkhjin reaffirmed Mongolia’s unwavering support for the Korean government’s efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula.



4. Both sides noted that Korea and Mongolia have closely worked together in responding to COVID-19, including mutual support for the repatriation of their respective nationals and sharing information on infectious disease control. The two sides agreed to continue close cooperation towards overcoming COVID-19.
