1. Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Director-General Frank Rijsberman of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) on November 24, during which the two sides discussed the achievements of the GGGI over the past five years since its founding as an international organization and ways for the Republic of Korea government and the GGGI to work together.

※ The GGGI, after being established in the ROK in June 2010 as a non-profit organization, became in October 2012 an international organization headquartered in Seoul pursuant to “the Agreement on the establishment of the GGGI.”

- The 28-member organization is conducting 33 projects in 25 countries from 2017 to 2018.
- The body renders assistance to developing countries with their efforts to achieve green growth and respond to climate change by offering advice in the policy-making process; helping establish green funds and raise finance; and conducting capacity-building projects.

2. Minister Kang extended appreciation to Director-General Rijsberman for his leadership at the GGGI, which had been launched as an international organization in October 2012 at the initiative of the ROK government; relayed the commitment of the ROK government to remain supportive toward the body; and asked the Director-General to work for a sound development of the GGGI.

° Director-General Rijsberman shared with the Minister the GGGI’s work to assist developing countries with their efforts to achieve sustainable development in the field of environment, stressing that the organization is working hard on practical projects that can help achieve strategic goals.

3. The two sides agreed to continue working together, in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the ROK-hosted Global Climate Fund (GCF) and various other bodies, on projects designed to help developing countries achieve sustainable development and respond to climate change.

4. To mark the fifth anniversary of the GGGI’s founding, the Foreign Ministry, together with the GGGI, will host a green roundtable on December 1 to learn about successful efforts of the ROK’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the field of green environment to build presence overseas and to seek strategies to that effect.

※ The third green roundtable will take place at Hotel Lotte, Seoul, on December 1, bringing together those from the government, international organizations, academic circles, businesses and other private sectors. The participants, together with those from the GGGI, will discuss successful efforts of Korean SMEs in the field of green environment to build presence overseas and will seek strategies to that effect.
