Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Lebanon

Lebanon, located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, is a country blessed with a long and rich history as the birthplace of the Phoenician civilization. It boasts a unique cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes, symbolized by the green cedar tree at the center of the national flag, which stands for eternity, resilience, happiness, and prosperity.

Despite enduring many hardships—including a 15-year civil war from 1975 to 1990, conflicts with Israel, and the impacts from situations in Syria—Lebanon continues to pursue national development through its high level of openness and social tolerance.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in February 1981, Korea and Lebanon have continued to develop friendly and cooperative ties across a wide range of areas, including politics, trade and economy, development cooperation, and culture. In 2021, the two countries celebrated the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Of particular significance is the deployment of Korea’s Dongmyeong Unit to the southern Lebanon in Tyre in July 2007 as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), contributing to peace and stability in the region.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Lebanon remains committed to advancing diplomacy, while also working to further deepen and broaden Korea-Lebanon relations. We also strive to serve to Korean nationals residing in or visiting Lebanon.

Lastly, I would like to inform you that as of April 10, 2025, the Republic of Korea and the Syrian Arab Republic have officially established diplomatic relations. The Republic of Korea stands together with the Syrian people in their efforts towards stability, unity, and prosperity.
