Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
The Korean government has decided to provide an additional US$8 million in humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the Israel-Hamas armed conflict.
The government will continue close consultation with relevant organizations to ensure that this assistance is fully used for humanitarian purposes.
Moving on, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Amb. Kim Gunn will have a trilateral meeting with his United States and Japanese counterparts -- Senior Official for the DPRK of the Department of State Jung Pak and Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Namazu Hiroyuki, respectively, -- in Seoul on January 18.
In the meeting, the chief negotiators of the three countries will share their assessments on the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including the DPRK’s recent provocations and other tension-escalating actions as well as its military cooperation and exchanges with Russia, and discuss measures to respond.
Amb. Kim will also have separate bilateral meetings with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts on January 18 and 17, respectively.
(A question-and-answer session followed.)
