Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will have a meeting with the Minister of the Environment of Peru and another with the Governor of the Mexican state of Nuevo León on May 17.
In the meeting with the Peruvian Minister of the Environment, the two sides will review the progress in friendly and cooperative relations between Korea and Peru, which mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties this year, and exchange views on ways to promote people-to-people exchanges and substantive cooperation between the two countries, including on response to climate change.
In the meeting with the Governor of the Mexican state of Nuevo León, the two sides will review the progress in the special economic cooperative ties between Korea and the Mexican state where some 300 Korean companies are operating, and ask for the Mexican side’s cooperation in supporting Korean companies’ business activities and protecting Koreans there.
Next, on May 17, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Chang Ho-jin will have a working luncheon with his counterparts from five Latin American countries who are visiting Korea for the 2023 Korea-LAC Future Cooperation Forum.
Over the working luncheon, the vice ministers will discuss the Korean government’s direction of foreign policy toward LAC as well as ways for Korea and the region to achieve joint prosperity and work together. Vice Minister Chang will also ask for LAC’s support for Korea’s bid to host World Expo 2030 in Busan.
