Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Soosuk Lim

April 11, 2023  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin, together with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna, will hold the fourth Korea-France foreign ministerial strategic dialogue in Seoul on the evening of April 14.

In the upcoming strategic dialogue, Foreign Ministers Park and Colonna will discuss the overall bilateral relationship; substantive cooperation; cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region; the situation on the Korean Peninsula; and global issues.

The Korean government will make efforts to boost high-level exchanges and produce concrete projects for cooperation by building on the Korea-France Comprehensive Partnership for the 21st Century.

Moving on, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will hold the third Korea-Germany foreign ministerial strategic dialogue with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock in Seoul on the afternoon of April 15.

In the upcoming strategic dialogue, Foreign Ministers Park and Baerbock will discuss Korea-Germany relations; substantive cooperation; global issues such as economic security; and key issues on the Korean Peninsula and in the international community.

The forthcoming foreign ministerial strategic dialogue is expected to serve as an opportunity to bolster the ties between the two countries that mark the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

Lastly, on April 15, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will have a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Mélanie Joly, who will visit Korea from April 13 to 16.

In the meeting, Foreign Ministers Park and Joly will have an in-depth discussion on ways to make substantial advances in Korea-Canada relations that were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the Korean President’s visit to Canada last September.

To be more specific, the two sides will discuss ways to work more closely together in areas such as economic security, new and emerging technologies, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as on regional and global stages with regard to the situation on the Korean Peninsula and regional affairs, and Indo-Pacific strategies, among others.

The upcoming meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to further develop the relations between Korea and Canada, with this year marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
