Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Soosuk Lim

March 14, 2023  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

The report of Elizabeth Salmón, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, summitted to the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council has been released.

The report mainly deals with the human rights of women and girls in the DPRK. It also notes the issues of abductees, detainees, and prisoners of war not returned, and calls on the DPRK to provide information on the fate and whereabouts of all the disappeared persons.

The Korean government welcomes the report of Special Rapporteur Salmón, and hopes that this report will contribute to raising awareness of the international community on dire human rights situations in the DPRK.

The Korean government will continue to participate actively in the efforts of the international community, including the UN, to improve the serious human rights situation in the DPRK.
