Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin will visit Cambodia from August 3 to 5 to attend ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings.

On the morning of Thursday, August 4, Foreign Minister Park will join the ASEAN-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to share with his ASEAN counterparts the new Korean government’s foreign policy toward ASEAN and to explore with them ways to  foster greater solidarity with ASEAN. 

At the ASEAN Plus Three (ASEAN+ROK, China and Japan) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held later in the morning, the foreign ministers will focus on ways to reinforce public health cooperation system in the region and to achieve economic recovery at an early date including through the stabilization of supply chains. 

On Friday, August 5, Foreign Minister Park will attend the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to exchange with other foreign ministers views on international affairs, including in the Indo-Pacific region.

The first ASEAN-related meetings to be attended by Foreign Minister Park since his inauguration are expected to serve as a significant opportunity to convey the new Korean government’s commitment to bolstering relations with ASEAN and to win support for the Korean government’s North Korea policy from the international community, including the ARF, the only multilateral security consultative mechanism in the region joined by North Korea.

Foreign Minister Park is planning to meet bilaterally with his counterparts of major countries on the sidelines of these multilateral meetings.
