Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

First, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a special meeting of the Advisory Committee on Science and Technology Diplomacy this morning, Tuesday, March 22.

In the special meeting, participants including Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jongmoon had intense discussions on the direction of new mid- and long-term policies for Korea’s science and technology diplomacy to cope with changes in the global economic, diplomatic and security environments including the current Russia-Ukraine situation and the increasing rivalry among major countries over technological hegemony.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue its efforts to strengthen science and technology diplomacy based on a broad understanding and expertise on various science and technology issues including infectious diseases, climate change, space, ICTs, and artificial intelligence, as well as traditional foreign affairs

Next, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jongmoon will chair a policy dialogue between the Foreign Ministry and civil society to be held at the Foreign Ministry this afternoon, Tuesday, March 22.

The policy dialogue will be attended by representatives from the Korea NGO Council for Overseas Development Cooperation (KCOC), a consultative body among civil societies related to development cooperation, as well as ten civil society organizations and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

At the dialogue, the Foreign Ministry, as a ministry in charge of Korea’s development cooperation, will discuss with civil society organizations ways to enhance cooperation in exploring the policy direction to respond to the rapidly changing development cooperation landscape and improving the effectiveness of humanitarian assistance.
