Press Briefing
Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Choi Youngsam
February 22, 2022 14:30 KST
Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.
First, I will read the MOFA Spokesperson’s statement on the situation regarding Ukraine.
The Korean government expresses serious concern over the rising tensions regarding Ukraine.
The Korean government has consistently supported Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Korean government strongly urges parties concerned to continue to seek a peaceful solution, while respecting international law and the Minsk Agreements.
The Korean government will continue to take precautionary measures, placing utmost priority on the safety of Korean nationals in Ukraine.
Next, let me read the MOFA Spokesperson’s statement on the so-called “Dokdo Day” event held by Japan’s Shimane Prefecture.
Regarding the so-called “Dokdo Day” event hosted by Japan’s Shimane Prefecture and attendance of a high-level official of Japan’s central government, the Korean government strongly protests Japan’s repeated futile provocations over Dokdo and sternly urges an immediate abolition of the event.
As Dokdo is clearly an integral part of the Korean territory historically, geographically and under international law, the Japanese government must stop making unjustified and farfetched claims over Dokdo immediately, and squarely face history in a humble manner.
(A question-and-answer session followed.)
